Par contre, en réaction avec l'anniversaire de l'album posté plus haut: je l'ai toujours trouvée terrifiante dans son look de l'ère. Très laide, presque monstrueuse. C'était l'effet escompté, j'imagine...

J’aime écouter cet album sulfureux, je le trouve à la fois sensuel, froid et "crade", j’apprécie le mélange hip-hop/R&B et house.

Mignon David Fincher :

 

 

Un article de 2020 revient sur la relation qu'entretenait la Queen de la pop avec le réalisateur. On y apprend qu'ils commençaient à se voir en dehors du travail en automne 1989 :

I can’t stress enough that this is where our story begins. It seems to have been at some point between here and the fall of 1989 that Madonna and Fincher started hanging out outside of work hours. (It will have registered for some fans by now that Madonna also began a relationship with Warren Beatty sometime that same year. Let’s assume for simplicity’s sake—and also to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, fidelity-wise—that both relationships were happening on and off throughout the year, and that neither was exclusive. The facts suggest that Madonna and Beatty only went public and exclusive once Madonna and Fincher’s relationship proper fizzled out in 1990.)

 

Plus tard, on apprend que Fincher a convaincu Madonna de sortir Oh Father en single :

Cependant, Madonna n'a pas apprécié le non-succès du single et a tenu Fincher pour responsable :

Madonna was an astute businesswoman, so the fact that she agreed to release “Oh Father” as a single on Fincher’s recommendation speaks to a level of trust between the two. “We were very happy with the video,” Fincher said. “But nobody ever saw it because the song wasn’t a hit.” It’s reasonable to conclude that their entanglement had begun by this point, since Fincher was now not only being made privy to Madonna’s childhood traumas—there are no references to Madonna’s mother in the song’s lyrics—but actually influencing her business moves. “You screwed me up,” she’d tell him in the new year. “You wanted to make this video for the song and no one liked the song and I went to bat for you and now I have to make a video by Tuesday.” As Fincher has explained, “And I said, ‘What’s the song called?’ And she said, ‘Vogue.’”

 

Il fera néanmoins le clip de Vogue et devait même, à la base, filmer le Blond Ambition Tour et donc le futur Truth Or Dare mais il ne le fera finalement pas :

In April, Madonna began her Blond Ambition World Tour in Japan, where she started filming what later became Truth or Dare. But Fincher, who’d been set to make the film, didn’t fly to Japan. He was replaced last-minute by Alek Keshishan, another music video director who also worked for Propaganda. In Hirschberg’s Vanity Fair cover story, she writes that when Madonna and Fincher’s “personal relationship cooled, so did their professional alliance.” Keshishan has described whatever happened as something closer to a falling out; he’d gotten the call from Madonna four days before he was wanted in Japan. Said falling out could theoretically have been about anything, but it’s probably relevant that Fincher married model-turned-photographer Donya Fiorentino in 1990. (Yes, the same Donya Fiorentino who’s since married and divorced Gary Oldman, star of Mank. The whole thing’s too complicated to get into here.)

 

Quelques années passent. 1993. Madonna demande à Fincher de réaliser Bad Girl. Pourtant, il n'aura pas été le premier choix de l'artiste. En effet, elle avait, à la base, demandé à Ellen von Unwerth et Tim Burton de réaliser le clip :

Perhaps unexpectedly, Madonna and Fincher’s professional alliance would heat up again in early 1993. A few months into her Erotica era, which was already proving to be more controversial than the Like a Prayer one, both Ellen von Unwerth and Tim Burton rejected offers to direct Madonna’s “Bad Girl” video. So, she reached out to Fincher, filming it in January.

 

Depuis, plus rien. Malgré tout, un article du journal italien La Repubblica sous-entend que Madonna aurait joué un rôle dans l'échec du mariage entre Fincher et son ex Fiorentino (c'est à prendre avec des pincettes) :

However, the two did go on to divorce in 1995, and an article published by Italy’s la Repubblica early that year quotes Fiorentino as calling Madonna “a diabolical character.” While the article should be taken with a grain of salt—it incorrectly reports Fincher’s marriage as having lasted less than a year, and refers to a piece in The Sun that I haven’t been able to find—it claims that Madonna and Fiorentino had some sort of face-to-face altercation in Los Angeles where Madonna was actually slapped. Fiorentino reportedly hated the fact that Madonna “bombarded [Fincher] with phone calls day and night,” and believed that Madonna had played a role in the dissolution of their marriage. It also claims that Fincher was the only man Madonna had loved since Penn.

 

Si cela s'avérait vrai, est-ce la raison qui expliquerait le fait que Madonna et Fincher n'aient plus collaboré depuis Bad Girl ? Mystère.

 

Depuis, chacun mentionnera l'autre occasionnellement dans des interviews.

Rooooh, le Re-Invention Tour, j’etais a fond… Elle avait la peche et etait au top! J’ai adore ce tableau cirque (Hanky Panky, Deeper & Deeper…) Super souvenir, j aimerais revivre ce concert! 
 

Je ne savais pas qu’elle avait interprete Beautiful Killer. Top chanson au passage, qui meritait un meilleur sort qu’une simple bonus track.

J'entendais toujours Love Profusion à la radio quand j'étais petit, j'ai été étonné en commençant à m'intéresser à Madonna de découvrir que ça n'avait pas été un plus gros hit. Et surtout qu'elle ne l'avait JAMAIS interprétée et en live (la seule d'American Life).

 

C'est effectivement une de ses meilleures chansons pour moi aussi.

Le titre avait bénéficié d'une très belle rotation radio en France, passant à la fois sur des radios jeunes et plus adultes.

Utilisé également en jingle sur M6 pendant un temps.

Pas si mal pour une 4eme/5 eme single.

Le seul regret c'est de ne pas avoir profité de cette attention particulière de la France pour le titre pour proposer un live aux NRJ MA de 2004.

Mes premiers souvenirs de Madonna sont Hollywood et Love Profusion. Comme toi j'étais persuadé pendant longtemps qu'ils avaient été de gros tubes jusqu'à ce que je débarque ici, la douche froide 

Mais ils restent mes titres préférés de sa disco (et l'album American Life son meilleur album à son sens). Et ils n'ont pas pris une ride.
