KATY PERRY: FOUR-LETTER FAREWELL IN HOT ALBUM

Singer Katy Perry admitted to me: “I’ve had a bit of a British influence in my life.”

The disc doesn’t drop until August but I was lucky enough to attend a beach-themed listening party in LA on Wednesday night where KP, 25, talked through most of the finished tunes.

I predict songs like Firework and Circle The Drain will be even bigger than her worldwide hits I Kissed A Girl and Hot n Cold.

Ex-boyfriend Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes was a fool to let the gorgeous singer slip through his fingers. And the poignant Circle The Drain seems to explain their split.

Katy, who performs at the MTV Movie Awards tomorrow, admitted: “People will think it’s about Travis but it could be about many other different situations.

“Circle The Drain is intense – it’s my Alanis Morrisette’s You Oughta Know."

“It has the F-word in it five times but I don’t think it’s me shocking people – you always say f*** when it’s called for.”

Katy added: “Some of the stuff I played tonight is a bit sugary sweet but when you listen to the record head to toe I think it’s completely appetizing. I didn’t want to have just club songs.

“People are living real lives, working jobs, having relationships. There’s definitely a bit more substance and perspective on this record.”

Naturally there’s a bunch of ditties penned with fiancé Russell Brand, 35, in mind. But not the saucy Peacock.

Katy grinned: “I’m a big fan of innuendo and puns. Peacock’s fun, but it could be totally dirty. A five-year-old could sing it, but your 15-year-old will know what it means.

“My Russell songs are more romantic – such as Not Like The Movies.

“Sometimes we girls are like: ‘He’s the one,’ but deep down there’s that little scratch. There’s no scratch at this moment, which is fantastic. When you know, you know.”

There’s a distinct British feel on a number of the tracks and on California Gurls, Katy’s disappointed she was unable to work with our Calvin Harris, 26.

She explained: “We tried to work together three or four times but he was busy making his record.

“When this record goes triple platinum, knock on wood, then he’ll wish he made the time.”

MTV Movie Awards air at 9pm on Monday, MTV UK.

FIRST LISTEN

Here’s my track-by-track verdict on Teenage Dream...

"CALIFORNIA GURLS": Sunny single has already sold a million copies in the US. Expect it to go straight to No 1 here. 3/5

"TEENAGE DREAM": Summer in a bottle with a storming pop beat. 5/5

"FIREWORK": Katy’s personal favourite. Euphoric and clubby. 5/5

"LAST FRIDAY NIGHT": “The dumbest on the record. Waking Up In Vegas 2.0,” says KP. 5/5

"CIRCLE THE DRAIN": “I want to be your lover, not your f***ing mother,” she rocks. 5/5

"THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY": Marching drums meet pretty nursery rhyme-esqe vocals. 3/5

"PEACOCK": Cheeky double entendres and a pulsating house beat make this a hit in waiting. 4/5

"PEARL": “She is a pyramid, but with him she’s a grain of sand.” A thoughtful slowie. 3/5

"NOT LIKE THE MOVIES": A piano-driven ballad where Katy sings her pipes out. 4/5"
