A letter from Jason:

To my friends and fans,

As most of you know, Lifehouse has been together for fourteen years. I was signed to Dreamworks Records in 1999 and released No Name Face in 2000. Dreamworks folded the label in 2004 and our contract was sold to Interscope/Geffen. We made 4 albums under Geffen's label in nine years. (Lifehouse, Who We Are, Smoke & Mirrors and Almería)

It's been a pleasure to work with some great people there. I pay respects to these folks because they didn't actually sign the band, but did their best to work our singles and albums, follow our touring etc. With the vast amount of change that's taken place in as many years it's become our instinct at this time to shake hands with Geffen, go our separate ways and begin a new chapter.

And while the business side is doing it's thing I've been focused on what I do best, writing and recording new material in my studio. With this new freedom has come a new sound that doesn't really reflect the band's previous work. My instinct is to draw on a blank canvas, allowing Lifehouse to be the band it's always been. We've made 6 studio records, done countless videos and toured millions of miles. The rest of the band are currently working on their own separate projects as well, so creatively this is a welcome hiatus for everyone.

So without getting too wordy, let me just thank you for being there through it all and assure you we are not breaking up. Lifehouse is solid, and an extension of my own family.
We'll continue to make records and tour as we always have, but for now I need to experience a new start with something fresh for my own inspiration. I have a new record that I've made almost entirely myself, and another one in the works. More details in the coming weeks, but I felt the need to clear the air about a lot of rumor and conjecture.

Again, my sincere thanks you all, our fans. You've been loyal to us for many years and I don't plan on letting you down now!
Peace, Jason
