I want to follow my dreams and be my own boss. The future is very exciting with my new team, “Genius Music” and the music is super-Hot! I’ve always been a fan of every genre of music, especially Pop! I’ve decided to go with Pop music with trickles of electronic, R&B, Hip Hop and Trance. This is the first time I get to work on my sound as a vocalist and put on a show through my vision because I am a true performer. I really believe in my heart that my fans are going to love my new sound, look, show and music. It’s so electric, infectious and intoxicating. Feeling very blessed at the moment.

Describe your Girlicious experience?

It was phenomenal. The girls and I were very similar and really crazy because we were really young. It was one of the best times of my life. It was amazing to share and experience it with three other girls. Obviously there were good and bad times but overall it was life changing. We were very blessed to come out through a TV show because we were exploited to different countries. It really helped Canada to be our main market.

What were some of the biggest challenges?

Sometimes it gets tough not being able to have your own space. You can be in a bad mood or angry and you’ll have to put on a show. We are not perfect and are all humans, so sometimes you’re gonna be upset and have to put on a big smile because the show must go on.

Can you pinpoint a moment where you may have been so over it that you questioned if you even wanted to be in the group anymore?

*Long pause* There was an incident where we were getting ready for a show and something happened. I didn’t necessarily question if I wanted to be in the group, it was more so will this group last long? There’s an endless list of girl groups that don’t have longevity. The Spice girls are the only ones that kept it together. They are still touring but they definitely still had their drama. I feel like girl groups are bound to break up.

Do you ever foresee a Girlicious reunion like the spice girls?

I feel like as a group we were very underrated and it was unfortunate that we didn’t get to go to as many countries as we wanted to. I feel like we would have lasted longer if we saw more countries but we didn’t get a chance to. If we did do a reunion it would have to be a Canadian tour. I would be down to do that (not right now) later down the road.

Ultimately what was the reason for disbandment?

There was a point in time when I wanted to expose that information from my point of view but I’ll just say that it was more of an agree to disagree type situation.

What was the moment when you realized it was over?

I thought the group was over when Natalie had her cocaine charge. I really thought she was going to go to jail. I honestly didn’t want to be affiliated with someone like that. Then everything started to get better when we were working on our second album but then one of the girl’s behavior started to get erratic. I had to question if this was going to continue because it was getting out of control.

Do you feel drugs contributed to the erratic behavior?

Ok. Do you still speak to the other girls?

I do actually. I see them occasionally out on the town sometimes and its really good to see them. They are really happy and that genuinely makes me happy.

You started off with 4 girls and then there were 3. Are you able to speak on this?

It was a situation where the label was going in another direction from urban to pop. Robin Antin envisioned a group of 3 but it ended up to be 4 and she went back to her original vision when we switched labels.

How did you and the girls respond to the news?

Umm *pause* at the time of her dismissal I was the only one in the group that was her friend, so I feel it affected me the most. It was difficult because we dealt with a lot of criticism from people for a decision that we didn’t even make and that cut to the core.

What was life like after the group?

Life was definitely unexpected. I thought my solo career was immediately gonna happen because of the connections and the people I thought had my back.

Unfortunately it wasn’t the fairy tale I expected and I had to get a part time job hosting at a restaurant called Fogo De Chao. I didn’t mind hosting because I found the entertainment aspect of it that I love. It worked against me when I realized a lot of my entertainment peers and fans were coming into the restaurant and would come up to me and say, “Hey your that girl from Girlicious! Can I take a picture with you?”

Ouch! I can’t even imagine going through that. Who was the most embarrassing person that saw you working at the restaurant?

Jo Jo came into restaurant and although she was very sweet about it, I could tell that she felt bad for me. I didn’t want anyone to pity me.

Wow how did that feel?

It was devastating and very embarrassing. I felt like my career was over and started questioning my existence and what I wanted to do with life. *Starts choking up* I spent countless times crying in the women’s bathroom about it. I really thought it was all over. I eventually did some soul searching musically and personally and re-evaluated my whole situation. I really figured out what I wanted to do and now I’m working on my solo project and I found a direction that fits me like a glove.

Before we get into the solo stuff you were asked by Robin Antin to join the new Pussycat Dolls right?

I’ve never really spoken on this yet but yes I was definitely chosen to be in the group. To be honest I was actually working on my solo project before that but Robin pretty much figured out everybody that she wanted. She really thought I would be a great asset to the group, so I kind of rolled with it for a while. After we did the Go Daddy commercial for the Super Bowl she (Antin) told me I didn’t have a choice and I couldn’t leave. I had to be in The Pussycat Dolls. She really wanted me in and I didn’t want to let her down.

Were you still working at the restaurant during this time?

Yes I was. They tried to get me to quit my job as it conflicted with the group but I wasn’t making any money from the Dolls to get that financial security I needed. I already had been through the Girlicious situation where we were touring and doing shows but were still broke and wasn’t wiling to take that risk again.

Why was Pussycat Dolls 2 not the right path?

It just wasn’t my yellow brick road you know? I felt like I already went down the path of the girl group thing. I’m very focused and I know what I want to do and being a part of a girl group is definitely not what I want anymore. So I ended up not doing it and I walked away.

What signs showed that this wasn’t your yellow brick road?

I was happier before I went through with the Pussycat Dolls when I was recording and writing my own music. I loved creating my own vision and having control of what I was doing. Unfortunately when your apart of a brand you don’t have that control or say and its not really you. Its apart of you but its not really you. I didn’t wanna be apart of some one else’s vision anymore. I wanted to be my own brand and my own boss.

Girlicious group member Natalie is now apart of the Dolls. Did you have a conversation about it prior? Did she ask for advice?

You know what’s really funny? When she found out I was in the group she spoke very negatively about it and thought it was a bad idea. Then when I decided I wasn’t doing it, I didn’t really hear from her. I received a text from her asking if I had left the Dolls, then I found out through word of mouth and pictures that she was in the group. I feel like it was a really good decision on her part because Natalie really fits into a group.

Have the two of you addressed her being in the group yet?

*Laughs* We haven’t actually. I’m so excited for that conversation. I’m sure it will be very uh great. Very fun. I have no negative feelings towards it and I’m actually really happy that something is working out for her.

How does it feel to be solo?

*Sigh of relief* It feels awesome! I really feel in control, I feel balanced, I feel uplifted and I feel free. When your apart of a girl group your not 100 percent yourself and now it’s all me and I’m so happy. I feel on top of the world.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

There’s so many from Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill and more modern artists like Britney Spears, Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, TLC, but the number one is Michael Jackson hands down. I’m all about positivity and love and that’s what Michael Jackson has been known for. Not to mention he’s the best performer of all time.

(Sa daube est dispo sur iTunes, soutenez-la pour ne pas qu'elle retourne au restaurant se taper la honte devant JoJo. #JeDisJuste)
