Best of 2008

 

"No Air", the hit song by Jordin Sparks duet with Chris Brown, was the top song on the AirCheck network of radio and television stations in 2008. It was played 4,817 times. Next up with 4,641 airplays was "Apologize" by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic. Chris Brown rounded off an excellent year in the third spot with his song "With You". Not to be outdone was Leona Lewis whose songs "Better In Time" and "Bleeding Love" finished in in fourth and fifth spot respectively.

 

South African radio's love affair with Mariah Carey shows no sign of ending. In terms of the total number of song airplays, she occupies the top spot for 2008 with 12,843 airplays. In second place was Ne-Yo with 11,586 plays, and Leona Lewis' songs were played 10,394 times. The top South African band was Freshlyground who enjoyed 7,482 plays.

 

Thabo Mdluli's hit "Unshakeable" was the top South African song. It occupies 18th position on the AirCheck Top 100 with 3,127 plays. Seventeen places behind him was Hip Hop Pantsula with their song "Music N Lights" with 2,455 plays. Although Freshlyground were the top South African artists of 2008, their hit song "Potbelly" only held 80th position with 1,541 plays.
